What Is a Prop Firm Consistency Rule? (2026)
You can hit your profit target and still fail the evaluation. The reason is usually the consistency rule — one of the most misunderstood rules in prop trading. Here's what it actually means.
What the consistency rule means
A consistency rule caps how much of your total profit is allowed to come from a single day. If the rule is 50%, no one trading day can make up more than half of your total profit. It exists to stop firms funding traders who got there on one lucky gamble rather than a repeatable process.
A quick example
Say your target is $3,000 and the consistency rule is 50%. If you make $2,500 in one monster session, that single day is more than 50% of your profit — so even once you reach $3,000 total, you won't qualify until your other days bring that day's share back under the limit. In practice it forces you to spread profit across several days.
Which firms have a consistency rule
| Firm | Consistency rule |
|---|---|
| Topstep | 55% (in the Combine) |
| Take Profit Trader | 50% (in the test) |
| Apex Trader Funding | None in eval (50% funded) |
| MyFundedFutures | None in eval (funded applies) |
| Bulenox | None on the evaluation |
| Tradeify | None in Growth eval (35% funded) |
How to not fail it
- Spread your profit across several trading days rather than chasing the target in one go.
- Avoid a single home-run day early — it can lock you out until you trade more.
- Trade a few extra days even after you hit the target, to dilute your best day's share.
Consistency rules are verified against the firms' official sites (Oct 2026) but change often. Confirm on each firm's own site before buying. Nothing here is financial advice.
