Prop Firm Daily Loss Limit Explained (2026)
Alongside the trailing drawdown, some prop firms add a second hard limit: a daily loss limit. It catches traders who have a healthy overall cushion but blow up in a single bad session. Here's how it works.
What a daily loss limit is
A daily loss limit caps how much you're allowed to lose in a single trading day. On a $50K account it's often around $1,000–$1,250. It's separate from your trailing drawdown — you can be nowhere near your overall liquidation line and still breach the daily limit if one day goes badly enough.
Hard breach vs soft breach
The consequence varies. Some firms treat hitting the daily loss limit as a hard rule break that fails the account. Others treat it as a soft breach — your positions are closed and you're locked out for the rest of that day, but the account survives. Tradeify's $1,250 daily loss, for example, is a soft breach; always check which type a firm uses.
Which firms use a daily loss limit
| Firm | Daily loss limit (50K) |
|---|---|
| Apex | $1,000 (50K EOD eval) |
| Tradeify | $1,250 (soft breach) |
| MyFundedFutures | $1,000 soft pause (Builder) |
| Bulenox | $1,100 (Option 2 only) |
| Topstep | Optional $1,000 |
| Take Profit Trader | None |
How to avoid getting caught
- Know your daily limit before you trade, and set a personal stop below it.
- After a couple of losers, stop for the day — don't revenge-trade into the limit.
- If you can choose (as on Topstep), decide whether the optional daily limit suits your style.
Rules are verified against the firms' official sites (Oct 2026) but change often. Confirm on each firm's own site before buying. Nothing here is financial advice.
