How Prop Firm Payouts Actually Work (2026)
The whole point of a funded account is getting paid — but the payout rules are where a lot of traders get caught out. Here's how prop firm payouts actually work, and how the main futures firms compare.
The pieces that decide when you get paid
- Buffer / threshold — most firms make you build a safety cushion above your starting balance before your first withdrawal.
- Payout frequency — how often you can request money (every few days, bi-weekly, or on demand).
- Minimum payout — the smallest amount you can withdraw at once.
- Profit split — your share, often 90%, sometimes 100% on the first slice of profit.
- Consistency at payout — some firms re-check the consistency rule every time you withdraw.
Payout comparison
| Firm | Payout frequency | Profit split |
|---|---|---|
| Apex | Every 5 trading days | 100% of first $25k, then 90% |
| Topstep | Winning days, from day 5 | 100% of first $10k, then 90% |
| Take Profit Trader | On demand (from day one) | 80% (PRO) |
| MyFundedFutures | On demand | 80 / 20 (Builder) |
| Bulenox | Bi-weekly | 90% |
| Tradeify | Bi-weekly | 90% |
The thing that actually matters: do they pay?
Generous payout terms mean nothing if a firm drags its feet or finds reasons not to pay. A proven, well-documented payout history — Topstep and Apex both have long ones — is worth more than a slightly bigger split from a firm nobody's heard of. Read recent trader experiences before you rely on a payout.
Payout rules sit alongside the drawdown and consistency rules — see each firm's full breakdown on its comparison page.
Payout rules are verified against the firms' official sites (Oct 2026) but change often. Confirm on each firm's own site before buying. Nothing here is financial advice.
